The Voice of Martyrs
SERVANTS OF THE PERSECUTED CHURCH SINCE 1967
December 1, 3 2005
Dear Amid,
Thank you for your help for the persecuted church. I am writing this letter on the way to speak in Denver, Colorado. I thank God for the great Body of Bible-believing Christians still active in America.
Last week, Chinese Christian, Cai Zhuohua, was given a three-year prison sentence for printing the Bible study, Experiencing God. This Bible study (Lifeway Press) has been purchased by six million Americans in recent years.
Some governments believe they can keep spiritually hungry people from looking for God. Just as God "smuggled" His Son quietly into the family of Joseph and Mary under the eyes of a murderous immoral tyrant, God continues to use His courageous, willing people around the world to "deliver the Messiah" in unusual ways.
Here at The Voice of the Martyrs, we are humbled God has chosen to use each of us for such life-changing work. We wish you a blessed Christmastime.

Dr. Amid Habib,
United People In Christ,
P. 0. Box 162601,
Altamonte Springs, FL. 32716 -2601
Dear Dr. Habib:
On behalf of the Bethlehem Association, I would like to acknowledge and thank you for the generous donation of $3,000 from the United People in Christ to the Bethlehem Association to help our brethren in Christ in Bethlehem, Beit-Jala and Beit-Sahur. Your contribution has been sent to Bethlehem together with our annual Christmas donation to eleven charities in the Bethlehem District. I am pleased that this Christmas we were able to send a total of $35,000. This is in addition to earlier contributions this year and to the 23 full tuition scholarships we granted to needy students at Bethlehem University. Your contribution has been assigned as follows: $1,000 to the Antonian Charitable Soc. in Bethlehem, $1000 to St Nicholas Home for the elderly in Beit-Jala and $1000 to the Arab Women Union in Beit-Sahur.
The situation in the Holy Land continues to be very depressed with little income for most families. The huge wall being built around the three Bethlehem towns has usurped them of all their agricultural lands and is cutting them off from Jerusalem, the center of economic, social and religious activity in the West Bank. The illegal wall has also reduced tourist activity to a trickle. This dreadful combination has had a devastating effect on the economy of the three Christian towns forcing many families into exile. Our modest help continues to be greatly appreciated and is helping some families to hold on instead of packing up and leaving.
Thank you and all your members for your continued generous assistance to our brethren in the Holy Land and for your interest in the Bethlehem Association. It encourages us all to persevere in a worthwhile effort. With our best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
Yours sincerely

An 8 year-old Explains God
By: Danny Dutton
One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die so there will be enough people to take care of things here on earth.
He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way, He doesn't have to take up His valuable time teaching them to talk and walk, He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.
God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV on account of this. Since He hears everything, not only prayers, there must be a terrible lot of noise in His ears, unless He has thought of a way to turn it off.
God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere, which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting His time by going over your parent's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.
Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't any who come to our church.
Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of Him preaching to them and they crucified Him. But He was good and kind like His Father and He told His Father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said OK.
His Dad (God) appreciated everything that He had done and all His hard work on earth so He told Him He didn't have to go out on the road anymore, He could stay in heaven. So He did. And now He helps His Dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones He can take care of himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important, of course.
You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to hear you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the times.
You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God. Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong! And, besides, the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.
If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can.
It is good to know He's around you when you're scared in the dark or when you can't swim very good and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids. But you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you.
I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases. And that's why I believe in God."
*Written by Danny Dutton, age 8, from Chula Vista, California, for his third grade homework assignment: "Explain God."
Footprints
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it. "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."
The LORD replied, "My son, My precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
Footprints Updated
Now imagine you and the Lord Jesus are walking along the beach together. For much of the way the Lord's footprints go along steadily, consistently, rarely varying in the pace. But your prints are in a disorganized stream of zigzags, starts, stops, turnarounds, circles, departures, and returns. For much of the way it seems to go like this. But gradually, your footprints, come in line with the Lord's, soon paralleling His consistently. You and Jesus are walking as true friends.
This seems perfect, but then an interesting thing happens; your footprints that once etched the sand next to the Master's are now walking precisely in His steps. Inside His large footprints is, the smaller "sand print," safely enclosed. You and Jesus are becoming one; this goes on for many miles. But gradually you notice another change. The footprints inside the larger footprints seem to grow larger. Eventually it disappears altogether. There is only one set of footprints.
They have become one; again this goes on for a long time. But then something awful happens. The second set of footprints is back. This time it seems even worse than before. Zigzags all over the place. Stop...start. Deep gashes in the sand. A veritable mess of prints. You're amazed and shocked. But this is the end of your dream.
Now you speak: "Lord, I understand the first scene with the zigzags, fits, starts and so on. I was a new Christian, just learning. But You walked on through the storm and helped me learn to walk with You". "That is correct," replied the Lord. "Then, when the smaller footprints were inside of Yours, I was actually learning to walk in Your steps. I followed You very closely."
"Very good. You have understood everything so far."
"Then the smaller footprints grew and eventually filled in with Yours. I suppose that I was actually growing so much that I was becoming more like You in every way."
"Precisely."
"But this is my question, Lord. Was there a regression or something? The footprints went back to two, and this time it was worse than the first."
The Lord smiles, then laughs. "You didn't know?" He says.
"That was when we danced."
God Said No...
I asked God to take away my pride, and God said, No.
He said it was not for him to take away, but for me to give up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole, and God said, No.
He said her spirit is whole, her body is only temporary.
I asked God to grant me patience, and God said, No.
He said that patience is a by-product of tribulation it isn't granted, it's earned.
I asked God to give me happiness and God said, No.
He said He gives blessings, happiness is up to me.
I asked God to spare me pain, and God said, No.
He said, "Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me."
I asked God to make my spirit grow, and God said, No.
He said I must grow on my own, but he will prune me to make me more fruitful.
I asked God if He loved me, and God said, YES!!
He gave His only Son who died for me, and I will be in Heaven someday because I believe.
I asked God to help me love others as much as He loves me,
And God said, "Ah...finally, you have the idea."
I asked for Strength.........
And God gave me Difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for Wisdom.........
And God gave me Problems to solve.
I asked for Prosperity.........
And God gave me Brain and Brawn to work.
I asked for Courage.........
And God gave me Danger to overcome.
I asked for Love.........
And God gave me Troubled people to help.
I asked for Favors.........
And God gave me Opportunities.
I received nothing I wanted
I received everything I needed

A Note of Gratitude
This past month United People in Christ celebrated its 7 1h birthday, and I want to take this opportunity to thank the many people who donated their time, talent and money to help me helping our brothers and sisters in Christ in the Middle East, without their help and support we could have not done what we did, and it is with deep gratitude and love that I acknowledge these people.

Love and Light
By: Jaime ShearerAre you ready for some inspiration? Good! Read this carefully, it's full of great lessons. It certainly was for me! I was in a meeting downtown a few hours ago, and two men asked me for money. You know the men I'm talking about-the ones with tattered clothing, unkempt facial hair and missing teeth, the ones who, for some reason, have ended up calling the streets their home, the ones who are at the lowest point of their lives and are struggling just to survive, the ones who are digging in the trash can for scraps of food and begging change. So what did I do when these men asked me for money? What would YOU do? The lessons came because I passed these men by, I gave them nothing other than a curt "no" and a flash of my being. And then BAM! within moments I felt convicted that I'd acted like a real jerk. I didn't smile at these guys, I didn't ask them how their day was going, I didn't even give them an inkling that I care about who they are (and I do. BTW. Because they are fellow humans sharing our planet). I had hardness programmed into me in this situation. How often do up pass by people who could use a little help? As I started feeling the aftershock of how I'd acted, I call a friend of mine and asked, "What do you think about giving money to bums?" I was truly confused about my own view on this.
You see, my background says to love unconditionally and give to the poor. I read the Bible (if you don't, just stay with me - there's a point), and it says, "...whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40). So I started thinking ... I denied a fellow brother something that he really needed and in turn denied it to my creator - the essence of my being. This goes completely counter to my very core beliefs! I believe that I am hear to spread love and light throughout the world. I believe that by radiating love and genuinely caring about people, I make a difference just by being me.
I was confused because my actions said differently.
What did I do in this case? I spread NOTHING! I put my love in a box and kept it for someone "more worthy". I didn't even give these guys the time of day. I didn't connect with them or ask them their story. If they had been in a shirt and tie, or even in a polo shirt, I would have shown them more compassion and care. THAT is not spreading unconditional love. So, I started tearing up. After all, it's hard to admit and know that I acted like a zealot!!!
We all want to give to hurricane victims, kids overseas, and so forth, what about the people -right here in our streets? Why isn't their charity enough? I go home to A/C, cable TV, a refrigerator (and cabinets) full of food, hot water, a washing machine, and a closet full of clothes (you probably do too), and I denied a man $1 because he was on the street rather than in an office? WHAT WAS I THINKING? I'll spend $4 on coffee yet withold $1 (or $5 or whatever) from a man who is digging in a trash can? DIGGING IN A TRASH CAN!!!! Boy, do I have egg on my face right now. If you asked me for $5 I wouldn't hesitate to give it to you. What made the man digging in the trash any different? Does it matter what he spends the money on? A wise man said to me, "It's my job to give, whether I do that is between me and God. Whatever the receiver does with the money he's given is between him and God.
So then I started talking with my friend about how I could "right this wrong". I can't turn back the clock...I can simply choose to behave differently in the future. And get this! The men who were on the street-the very ones who didn't held two nickels to rub together - GAVE me something I am now passing it on to you. My friend showed me that I was given the gift of awareness. I am now aware of how I have preferred one person's situation over another. I am aware that I don't always love unconditionally. I am aware that my intuition guides me to naturally love others. I am aware that the old programming is no longer serving me. I am aware that I have more room in my heart for others. What's amazing is now that I am aware, I can make a greater difference in the lives of others by loving them no matter what their circumstances are. And now you have this lesson in your hands. What are you going to choose to do with it? Will you release judgment of others and begin loving people where they are?
The men on the street gave to me just by being where they are, in their circumstances, in their own trials. They gave a tremendous gift that allowed me to open my heart. Now I see them with loving eyes rather than hardness of heart as I was conditioned. Imagine the impact YOU have by being where you are!!! When you're struggling with something, when you feel hopeless and lost, and when you're on top of the world, just know that simply by being who you are and living in the moment, you are positively impacting, the lives of thousands of people as those two men did tonight. They had no idea that the gift they gave me was love, And that the gift I now pass on to you,
Let your light shine!!
Letter to Dio-Ginitos
Editor's note: The author of this letter is unknown. He is defending Christians to his atheist friend. It was written around 219AD. As you read this, consider how it applies today.
Christians are no different that other people in regards to country, language or dress. They have no towns or cities built just for them. They don't speak strange language. They live very ordinary lives. They are scattered among the Greek towns and cities and among the heathens, according to what the Lord has decided for each one of them. They abide by the local traditions as far as eating, dressing and the way they live; but they follow the laws of their spiritual kingdom.
Each one of them lives in his country, but is often treated as a guest or a foreigner. They abide by the laws and regulations of the country they live in. Every foreign land for them is home and every home they live in is a foreign land. They get married and have children just like everybody else, but they never abandon their children. They share food with each other but do not share husbands. They live in the flesh but not according to the flesh. They spend their lives on Earth but they know that their permanent home is Heaven. They obey their government's rules and regulations but the way they live is superior to any laws made by man.
They love everybody but almost everyone hates them, ignores them or persecutes them. They get killed but they never die. They are poor, but they make many around them rich. They don't have much but they are given more and more of everything they ask. when they are ridiculed, they find their pride in the cross. When they get accused, they are found to be innocent. When they are cursed, they bless their cursors.
In brief, the Christians in the world are like the soul in the body. The soul is usually present in every part of the body. These are the Christians. You find them in every city of the world. The soul lives in the body, but is not part of the body. The Christians live in the world but they are not from the world.
The soul becomes pure with prayers, hunger and thirst. The Christians, the more they are persecuted, the more they increase day after day. The Lord has given them a gift, a grace, that is very difficult or impossible to let go of.
Editor's Note: 1781 years later, things are no different. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Committed Atheist
By: Nathan Bluhm
This is a true story of something that happened just a few years ago at USC.
There was a professor of philosophy there who was a deeply committed atheist. His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester attempting to prove that God couldn't exist.
His students were always afraid to argue with him because of his impeccable logic.
For twenty years he had taught this class and no one had ever had the courage to go against him. Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever "really gone against him" (you will see what I mean later). Nobody would go against him because he had a reputation.
At the end of every semester, on the last day he would say to the class of 300 students, "If there is anyone here who still believes in God, stand up!"
In twenty years, nobody ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do next.
He would say, "Because anyone who believes in God is a fool. If God existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and breaking. Such a simple task to prove he is God, and yet he can't do it."
And every year he would drop the chalk onto the tile floor of the classroom and it would shatter into a hundred pieces. All the students were convinced that God couldn't exist. Certainly a number of Christians had slipped through, but for 20 years they had been too afraid to stand up.
Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to get enrolled in the class. He was a Christian, and had heard the stories about this professor. He had to take the class because it was one of the required classes for his major. And he was afraid. But for three months that semester he prayed that he would have the courage to stand up no matter what the professor said or what the class thought. Nothing they said or did could ever shatter his faith, he hoped.
Finally, the day came. The professor said, "If there is anyone here who still believes in God, stand up!" The professor, and the class of 300 people looked at him, shocked, as he stood up at the back of the room.
The professor shouted, "YOU FOOL! If nothing I have said all semester has convinced you that God doesn't exist, then you are a fool! If God existed, he could keep this piece of chalk from breaking when it hit the ground!"
He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did it slipped out of his fingers, off his shirt cuff, onto the pleats of his pants, down his leg, and off his shoe. And as it hit the ground it simply rolled away, unbroken. The professor's jaw dropped as he stared at the chalk. He looked up at the young man and then ran out of the lecture hall.
The young man who stood up proceeded to walk to the front of the room and shared his faith in Jesus for the next half hour. 300 students stayed and listened as he told of God's love for them and of his power through Jesus.
Lesson from a Child
We often learn the most from our children. Some time ago, a friend of mine punished his 3 year old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight, and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning, and said, "This is for you, Daddy." He was embarrassed by his earlier over reaction, but his anger flared again when he found that the box was empty.
He yelled at her, "Don't you know that when you give one a present, there's supposed to be something inside of it?
The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses into the box. All for you, Daddy."
The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged her for forgiveness. My friend told me that he kept that gold box by his bed for years. Whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.
In a very real sense, each of us as parents has been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.
